If you’re like most parents, you probably keep track of where your kids are at all times. But what if you want to track them even when they’re not around? That’s where location tracking comes in. Location tracking is a technology that allows apps to track the movements of a device’s user. This information can be used to determine where the device is, as well as how long it has been in a certain location. There are a few different types of location tracking apps available on Android, and each one has its own benefits and drawbacks. Here’s how to choose the right one for your needs:
- Location Services: This app is used to track the movements of devices in real-time. It can be very helpful if you want to know where your child is at all times, but it can also be quite annoying if they’re not using it and you need to check on them frequently. If your child uses this app regularly, make sure that you have their current location set up so that you don’t have to keep track of their movements manually.
- Activity Tracker: An activity tracker records how often your child is doing specific activities. This could include playing video games or watching TV, among other things. If you want to know what activities your child is doing and when they’re doing them, an activity tracker is a great option. However, these devices tend to be more expensive than other types of location tracking apps and may not be as accurate or detailed as other options.
- Geolocation: Geolocation tracks the locations of devices within a certain radius from an owner’s current position (usually about 10 meters). This information can be helpful if you want to find out where your kid was when something happened or if they left their phone behind at home while you were away for work. However, geolocation data can also be inaccurate and may not reflect recent movements accurately.
Google’s Family Link service offers a bunch of handy features including location tracking. The nice thing about Family Link is the process is very transparent. The child’s device gets a notification when you’re tracking it. No one should be unknowingly tracked.

First, open the “Family Link For Parents” app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Your child needs to be using Android, but you can track them from any device. Select the child who you would like to track.
Scroll down to the Location card and tap “Set Up.”
A pop-up message will explain that your child’s device will have location turned on and their location will be share with you until you turn it off. Tap “Turn On” to proceed.
Tracking will immediately begin. You’ll now see a new card on your child’s page with their location shown on a map. There are shortcuts to navigate to their location and refresh the location. You can also “Label” the location.
That’s all there is to it. To turn location tracking off, go to your child’s page and tap “Manage Settings.”
Now select “Location.”
Toggle the switch off for “See Your Child’s Location.”
It’s really as simple as that. You can track your child’s device whenever you want right from your own device. Maybe you need to track your kid during a trip away from home or they’re grounded. Whatever the situation may be, Family Link is your best method.
