If you have an iPhone, there are a few ways to control both the Ringer volume and the system volume. Here are three methods:
- Control the Ringer Volume with the Home Button: To change the Ringer volume, press and hold the Home Button until you hear a beep. The current Ringer volume will be displayed in parentheses next to the button. To increase or decrease the Ringer volume, release the Home Button and press and hold again.
- Control System Volume with Menu Items: To change system volume, open System Preferences and select Volume from the General tab. Then use one of the following menu items to change system volumes: mute (to turn off sound), set speakerphone to active (to enable speakerphone), or set media player to active (to enable media playback).
- Control System Volume with afinger gesture: To change system volumes using a finger gesture, first tap on one of them from within System Preferences and then use your finger to drag it up or down onscreen.
By default, the volume buttons on the side change the “system volume”, which affects things like music and video playback. But the volume of your ringer volume, which controls the ringer and notifications, stays the same unless you change it from the settings.
If you want your volume buttons to control system volume and ringer volume, you can make them do so by tweaking one setting. Open your iPhone’s Settings app and tap on Sounds and Haptics.
Under Ringers and Alerts, toggle the switch that says Change With Buttons.
Now when you press the volume buttons, it will also change the volume of the ringer.
