If you’re a Verizon customer and have a FIOS router, you can change your Wi-Fi network password. This guide will show you how to do it on your Verizon FIOS router.

  1. Log into your Verizon account online or by using a phone app.
  2. In the account area of the website, click on the Wi-Fi icon in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. On the next page, click on the Wi-Fi password field and enter a new password.
  4. Click on the save button to finish changing your Wi-Fi network password.

Anybody who has installed FIOS has the same problem… a hand-written card with an insane password to enter on every new device. And are those numbers or letters? Luckily it’s easy to fix.

To login to your Wi-Fi router, open up a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 and then login with the password located on the sticker on the router itself. (The username is always admin).

Once there, click on Advanced Security Settings on the left-hand side.

Now you’ll be presented with a screen that asks you what type of security to use. If you have some really old devices like the original Nintendo DS, you might need to use WEP, but for the most part, you should be using WPA2 as it is the only type of secure encryption for Wi-Fi.

So click the radio button to select WPA2.

This will take you to a screen that allows you to enter your password.

Since that last screenshot is basically unreadable, here’s a zoomed-in view. You’ll want to select “Custom pre-shared key” instead of “Verizon default pre-shared key,” and then add your own security key there instead. Make sure to click Apply when you are done, of course.

And please, use a responsible and long password so the neighbor’s teenager doesn’t hack your Wi-Fi. Maybe something like My1Passwordisbetterthanyours.

You’ll immediately be logged out and need to connect to the Wi-Fi again on every device that you had previously connected.
