There are a few ways to block unknown numbers on Android. The first way is to use the phone’s settings. Scroll down and find the “Security” section, and then click on the “Unknown Sources” tab. Under “Unknown Sources,” you’ll see a list of sources that your phone can access. Click on one of these sources, and then enter in the code shown in the image below to block unknown numbers from being called. If you’re using an Android Lollipop or later phone, you can also use a feature called “Do Not Call.” This feature is available under the “Privacy” section of your phone’s settings, and it allows you to decide whether or not people should be able to call you without your permission. To turn this feature on, go to your phone’s Settings and select “Do Not Call.”

One of the downsides of having a phone in your pocket all the time is unwanted calls. Sure, you could simply not answer the call, but that’s still annoying. You can avoid this by blocking unknown numbers on Android.

What Is an “Unknown” Number?

We’re going to be showing you how to block calls from “unknown” numbers, but what does that actually mean? In short, it blocks any call from a private or unknown number.

This does not mean it will block calls from numbers not included in your contacts, as it does on iPhone. Private and unknown calls literally appear on caller ID without a phone number.

Blocking these calls will not block calls from regular phone numbers, even if they aren’t in your contacts.

First, we’ll show you how to block unknown callers from the “Phone by Google” app. You can download the app from the Play Store and set it as the default dialer. It will ask to be set as default when you install it, but if you miss that you can do so from Settings > Apps >Default Apps > Phone  App.

Now go to the Phone by Google and tap the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner.

Select “Settings” from the menu.

Select “Blocked Numbers.”

Toggle the switch on for “Unknown.”

That’s it! You will no longer receive calls from unidentified callers.

How to Block Unknown Callers on a Samsung Phone

If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone and don’t want to use the Google Phone app, we’ll show you how it works with Samsung’s stock dialer.

Open the “Phone” app and—from the “Keypad” tab—tap the three-dot menu icon in the top-right.

Select “Settings” from the menu.

Go to “Block Numbers.”

Toggle the switch on for “Block Unknown/Private Numbers.”

You’re all set! Calls from unidentified numbers will no longer ring your phone. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of calls you have to ignore. Android has some other tools you can use to limit spam calls as well.
